Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.

An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.

Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.

Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s stalker is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

About Patricia Briggs

Montana born author, Patricia Briggs, has worked her way into a very successful author of fantasy novels. She chose to live mostly in the Pacific Northwest which is not typically the hotbed of authors, but she has managed to live a quieter life and still become a New York Times bestselling author. Her most famous series, Mercy Thompson and the Columbia Basin Pack, we're fictional residents of the area in which she resides, the Tri-Cities Washington.

From 1990 on, Briggs has published 17 novels beginning with traditional fantasy, then in 2006 moving to urban fantasy. A unique mark of her novels is that even in a series, each novel can serve as a stand-alone story without leaving the reader to wonder what happens next.

Briggs also writes the Alpha and Omega series, and they are set in the same environment as the Mercy Thomas series. The most recent of that series debuted in 2012, and came in at #4 on the NYT bestsellers list.

Briggs still lives in Washington state with her husband and children. They have a small herd of horses that they enjoy.

This is an example of urban fantasy at it's finest. I hate to say it, but I've given up on a lot of the series in the adult UF genre that I used to love. Why? Well, it seems that after a few kick-ass books, they turn into paranormal romance...or worse. Take the Anita Blake series for instance. The......more

3.75 stars. This installation of the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series is noteworthy for two things: Adam's ex-wife Christy comes back into town, begging for protection from a stalker but also trying to steal Adam's attention and the werewolf pack's sympathy and loyalty away from Mercy, because th......more

4-4.5 stars It’s been a few years since I’ve read a Mercy Thompson book. When the 9th book came out and my husband read it, I was reminded I still needed to read book 8! I started this one on audio and as always, love the narrator that voices Mercy. Even though it had been a while since I’ve been......more
