Synopsis

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Don’t miss the hit streaming series Reacher!

Never Go Back is a novel of action-charged suspense starring “one of the best thriller characters at work today” (Newsweek).

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Reacher is there to meet—in person—the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces—and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

About Lee Child

English Author Jim Grant (Pen Name) “Lee Child”, was born in 1954 in Coventry, England UK. His most notable writings are the Jack Reacher series novels. Beginning with his first novel, Killing Floor, each of his work follows a former American military policeman, Jack Reacher who wanders throughout the United States.

Grant (Child) studied law at the University of Sheffield, but knew he had no intention of practicing law. After graduating, he worked in commercial television. He worked in that venue until 1995. A fun fact is that he chose Reacher for his main characters name, because he himself is tall and his wife once said, “If this “writing thing” does not work out, you could always be a Reacher in a supermarket.” Grant (Child) describes his books as revenge stories-“somebody does a very bad thing, and Reacher takes revenge.” In 2012, his novel “One Shot”, was adapted into a film called “Jack Reacher”, starring Tom Cruise.

While traveling through South Dakota in 61 Hours, ex-military cop Jack Reacher had occasion to call in to his old office in Washington, D.C, the headquarters of the 110th MP. Reacher once commanded the unit but it now belongs to Major Susan Turner. Reacher decided that Turner had a very nice voice a......more

This Jack Reacher novel continues the series of deceptively simple, well conceived and crafted, and satisfying novels. Reacher is a bit more mature at times but always ahead of the story curve. The plot is timely, and the story is driven by ethical dilemmas faced by Reacher as a result of his past. I......more

Book Review Jack Reacher is back, in this, the 18th in the series. Like all the others I read this in one or two sittings in spite of the fact that some parts did not involve as much action as we have come to expect from this series. Lee Child's skill in causing one to turn the page is really quite e......more

The typical Jack Reacher novel --- in other words, a fun ride from beginning to end on the adventures of an amazingly adventurous orthophobe, Jack Reacher. The book opens where the previous episode, "A Wanted Man", leaves off --- with Reacher arriving in Virginia, hoping to meet up with the CO of th......more

I wasn’t expecting Reacher to be hauled back into the military by some random and made-up rule, but that’s what happened when he went on the search for the female voice on the phone he became quite attached to, a couple of books back. He’s been methodically making his way back to his old stomping gr......more

Quotes

“A breathless cross-country spree . . . some of the best, wiliest writing [Lee] Child has ever done . . . Child’s bodacious action hero, Jack Reacher, has already tramped through 17 novels and three e-book singles. But his latest, Never Go Back, may be the best desert island reading in the series. It’s exceptionally well plotted. And full of wild surprises. And wise about Reacher’s peculiar nature. And positively Bunyanesque in its admiring contributions to Reacher lore.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times

“Welcome to the relentless world of Jack Reacher and his impressive tendency to be in the wrong place at the right time. . . . Child has created an iconic character that other thriller writers try to emulate but don’t come close to matching. He has a talent for taking material that in the hands of other authors would be stale and making it seem fresh. . . . Tight and compelling . . . Never Go Back is one of Child’s best novels.”—Associated Press

“An adrenaline-charged, action-packed thriller . . . impossible to put down.”—Lansing State Journal

“The dialogue has never been sharper. . . . The pages turn themselves.”—San Antonio Express-News

“For the pure pleasure of uncomplicated, nonstop action, no one touches Reacher.”Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“Brilliant . . . Child never, ever slips. He keeps the action cranking better than anyone, but, best of all, he keeps us guessing about Reacher.”Booklist (starred review)

“One of the best in the series.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)
