Synopsis

From the author of The Walk and The Christmas Box, the inspiring New York Times bestseller about the journey of a heartbroken man who embarks on a walk across America.

Alan Christoffersen, a once-successful advertising executive, wakes one morning to find himself injured, alone, and confined to a hospital bed in Spokane, Washington. Sixteen days earlier, reeling from the sudden loss of his wife, his home, and his business, Alan left everything he knew behind and set off on the cross-country journey of a lifetime. But a vicious roadside stabbing interrupted Alan’s trek and robbed him of his one source of solace: the ability to walk. Homeless and facing months of difficult recovery, Alan has nowhere to turn—until a mysterious woman enters his life and invites him into her home.

An astonishing tale of life and death, suffering and healing, love and second chances, Miles to Go picks up the story of The Walk, continuing this unforgettable bestselling series about one man’s unrelenting search for hope.

About Richard Paul Evans

Showing great tenacity, American author, Richard Paul Evans, grew up in Murray City, Utah, and when he decided to write and publish a book, he could not find a willing publisher, so he self-published. That book was entitled, The Christmas Box. He had been working full time as an advertising executive, when he decided to write a Christmas story for his children. He distributed his book to area bookstores, and it became a huge local success.

The following year, The Christmas Box became the #2 bestseller on the New York Times list. That distinction led to a bidding war among publishers (who originally had no interest). Simon and Schuster won the bidding with their advance payment of $4.2 million! They released the book in hardcover in 1995, and it became the first book to be NYT #1 bestseller in both hard cover and paperback.

In 1995, The Christmas Box was made into a movie for television, starring Richard Thomas and Maureen O'Hara. In 1996 his book, Timepiece, was also made into a television movie starring Naomi Watts, James Earl Jones, and Ellen Burstyn. Other books adapted for movies were, The Locket, A Perfect Day, The Mistletoe Promise, and The Mistletoe Inn.

Evans is known for his conservative Christian themes appealing to family values, and for his children's books. He also founded Christmas Box House, Int'l that helps abused and neglected children, with a network of shelters and services. Another group was established to help men who have feelings of isolation caused by the "toxic masculinity" movement by some women. This group is called Tribe of Kyngs. Evans lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife, five children, and one grandchild.

My Take A beautiful, well-written second book in The Walk series, this book is rich in life lessons and character development, two things I love in a novel. Evans’ chapters are short and impacting – it makes you feel like you are zipping through the book (I read it in two days). I like the title and......more

I picked up Miles to Go by Richard Paul Evans on purpose. I'm not a fan of his writing, but I wanted an uplifting book for the holidays. Reading it reminded me of why I'm not a fan of his writing. It should have been an uplifting book. It had all the parts of the formula: sad story, characters overc......more

I'm not quite sure why I keep reading books by RPE... I guess I keep hoping that I'll really like one eventually. Things I liked: 1) I love the character of Falene, a beautiful woman who is not swayed by the gawking men and does things because it's the right thing to do. 2) Two new characters, Angel a......more
