Synopsis

In this electrifying ninth installment of the award-winning, #1 New York Times bestselling Michael Vey series, the Electroclan must fight a former friend to save their captured ally!

With Tara still in the clutches of the Elite Elgen Guard Unit the Chasqui and their malevolent leader, the Sovereign Amash, Michael Vey and the Electroclan have no choice but to continue the fierce battle that has been waging since their arrival in Peru. But saving one of their own means battling a onetime teammate, as Jack has turned traitor and joined forces with Amash and his men.

At the same time, the clan must work with the Alpha Team to act before the Chasqui can put their plan to destroy the city of Arequipa into motion. And when Taylor makes a bold yet dangerous move to save her sister, the urgency climbs even higher.

With so many lives at stake, the Electroclan has no time to waste, and no room for error as they take on this latest growing threat.

About Richard Paul Evans

Showing great tenacity, American author, Richard Paul Evans, grew up in Murray City, Utah, and when he decided to write and publish a book, he could not find a willing publisher, so he self-published. That book was entitled, The Christmas Box. He had been working full time as an advertising executive, when he decided to write a Christmas story for his children. He distributed his book to area bookstores, and it became a huge local success.

The following year, The Christmas Box became the #2 bestseller on the New York Times list. That distinction led to a bidding war among publishers (who originally had no interest). Simon and Schuster won the bidding with their advance payment of $4.2 million! They released the book in hardcover in 1995, and it became the first book to be NYT #1 bestseller in both hard cover and paperback.

In 1995, The Christmas Box was made into a movie for television, starring Richard Thomas and Maureen O'Hara. In 1996 his book, Timepiece, was also made into a television movie starring Naomi Watts, James Earl Jones, and Ellen Burstyn. Other books adapted for movies were, The Locket, A Perfect Day, The Mistletoe Promise, and The Mistletoe Inn.

Evans is known for his conservative Christian themes appealing to family values, and for his children's books. He also founded Christmas Box House, Int'l that helps abused and neglected children, with a network of shelters and services. Another group was established to help men who have feelings of isolation caused by the "toxic masculinity" movement by some women. This group is called Tribe of Kyngs. Evans lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife, five children, and one grandchild.

MV9 is at least better than the last in that it is classic Michael Vey. However, it is nothing more than tropes MV fans are used to: jungles of Peru, "impenetrable" compounds, Deus-Ex-Ostin, and corny dialogue. Still fun, I guess. I generally don't have a problem with revisiting a loved universe with......more

(Spoilers Ahead! Readers Beware…) Front half of the book: 2/5. Back half: 2.5/5. I’m back! Is this the only series I will write reviews for? Maybe. It depends on if there is ever a returning series and author that annoys me quite as much as this one. Again, I ask, “Where are the test readers? Where a......more

This book is marginally better than its immediate predecessor, but I stand by my review of #8, that splitting this story into two books was unnecessary, a cynical money grab. I also stand by my continuing frustration that RPE has forgotten that all-important 10th grade English lesson that there are......more

Reading these last two books have not been a fun experience. It feels as if the life has been sucked out of the books. I grew up on Michael Vey and Books 1-7 continue to have a special spot on my bookshelf at home. But these last two books just lack depth. Absolutely everything is explained to the r......more
