Marine Speak: Collected Stories and Reflections

From the wire surrounding a Vietnam compound to the uneasy journey home, J. R. Henry T'Ostian tells his story in the language he lived it.Marine Speak is an unfiltered autobiography of a young Marine's experiences in Vietnam during 1968 and 1969, and the memories that followed him into civilian life. Through convoy ambushes, nights at an observation post, friendships forged under fire, and a brief escape to Australia on R&R, T'Ostian recalls a world where danger, loyalty, grief, and dark humor shared the same ground. At the heart of his account are the men beside him: the friends who made the days bearable, the Marines he depended on, and those whose absence he would carry long after leaving Vietnam. Returning home brought its own struggles—learning to live beyond combat while remaining bound to the people and experiences that had shaped him.Alongside his military memories, T'Ostian shares personal reflections, poems, and irreverent stories about love, betrayal, faith, forgiveness, and survival. His voice is blunt, profane, sometimes angry, and deeply personal. For readers of Vietnam veteran autobiographies and Marine Corps memoirs, Marine Speak offers one man's account of service, loss, and the lifelong meaning of being a Marine.Contains strong language, graphic accounts of violence, and explicit sexual material. Intended for adult readers.
