Synopsis

Sometimes winning comes at a high price.

Three years after Whiskey War, Dax and Rose live the high life at the Foster House, running the poshest speakeasy on the west coast. Half Moon Bay is about to claim its place as the top tourist destination in Northern California, with a second club and the remodeled Seaside Hotel under Grace Parsons's ownership and Dax's management. Repeal of Prohibition is on the horizon with the prospect of making their illegal liquor businesses legitimate. Dax's fractured friendship with Charlie Dawson is the only blowback from her battle with Frankie Wilkes. If she could fix it, her life with Rose would be perfect.

Or so Dax thinks until an election sweeps in Roy Wilkes as the new county sheriff. With the law behind him, he's hellbent on revenge for the death of his brother in the wake of the whiskey war and puts everyone involved in his crosshairs. On day one, he wreaks havoc in Half Moon Bay with arrests and beatings. Nothing is off the table. No one close to Dax and Rose is safe, and they must leverage every resource to protect the people they love. How far will Dax go? Will beating Wilkes at his game come at too high a price? Who will survive to open the last barrel?

About Stacy Lynn Miller

Stacy Lynn Miller is a late bloomer as a writer. She's a retired Air Force officer, spending twenty years toting a gun and police badge, tinkering with computers, and sleuthing for clues as an investigator. She's a proud stroke survivor, mother of two, tech nerd, chocolate lover, and terrible golfer . . . with a hole-in-one. When you can't find her writing, she'll be golfing or drinking wine (sometimes both) with friends and family in Northern California.

The third, and I am assuming last, in the Speakeasy series. The series follows Dax and Rose during the prohibition era. The books are entertaining and action packed. For best enjoyment the series should be read in order, but some background is given if this is read on its own. In this book a corrupt......more

The Last Barrel is third book in the trilogy Speakeasy. I vaguely remember the details of book one, however, I still recall that I was annoyed with the main character, Dax. But I don’t remember whyyy? I am so glad that this book ended up defying my prejudice and exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed th......more

I haven't read the first two books of the series. But Stacy does a great job of giving you the history of all characters throughout the book. I found Dax, Rose, May, Hank, Grace, Clive and friends all lovely. The evil players were that, evil. I found it to be entertaining and a page turner. 5 stars!......more

3rd book in the Speakeasy series. I found it gripped my attention. Good bit of action in it as well as giving more insight into other characters. Grace's breast cancer lumpectomy was a fairly new technique at the time although I think the radium therapy offered was not yet available then. That came......more

This is a fantastic conclusion to what I would consider a wonderful historical romance series. Miller wraps it up right, providing readers with a satisfying conclusion to the overarching narrative. She does this by insuring four things are executed exceptionally well in the final installment. She: 1......more
