Synopsis

The cruel and bizarre slaying of a beautiful teen leads Detective Decker into the dark heart of an exoticsubculture: the seamy, sometimes violent world of Southern California's rootless, affluent youth. But even the confession of a disturbed kid with cold ""killer eyes"" cannot soothe Decker's inner torment. For he knows in his gut this crime goes much deeper and higher than anyone expects -- and that true justice, brutal and complete, has yet to be done.

About Faye Kellerman

Mystery author, Faye Kellerman, not only writes amazing, best-selling mysteries, but is married to famous author, Jonathan Kellerman. The pair of authors is the only married couple to have been on The New York Times best seller list at the same time. An awesome accomplishment for sure. And, to make it even better, their oldest child, Jesse Kellerman is a best-selling novelist and award winning playwright. Their youngest, a daughter, Aliza Kellerman, co-wrote Prism, a novel for young adults, with her mother. Keeping it in the family.

Faye Kellerman's early history is a very interesting one. She actually received a B.A. in mathematics, and then earned her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Even though she fully intended to be a dentist, she never practiced even one day in the dental profession. She first became a housewife and mother, then developed her writing career.

Faye Kellerman has well over twenty million copies of her novels in circulation. The Decker/Lazarus thrillers are among her most successful works. They include such titles as: Sacred and Profane; Milk and Honey; Day of Atonement; Justice; Prayers for the Dead, and many others. She has also received awards for her collection of short stories. As if all that writing and creating were not enough, she also has hobbies of gardening, sewing, and jogging. She has four children, and lives in Los Angeles and Santa Fe.

Upon being asked how an educated Dentist becomes an accomplished, award winning author, she said it was... a desire for justice, a suspicious nature, an overactive imagination, and of course, a penchant for the bizarre.

Reviews

Faye Kellerman is one of those writers I'd been aware of for years simply due to the number of books she'd written. I simply had never gotten around to picking one of her books up and trying it. I picked this one up because it was used as an example in Savage Spawn: Reflections on Violent Children a......more

A fairly good read from start to finish. Dealing with affluent teenagers can be as frustrating as it gets, but Decker handles it well. One of his stumbling blocks though was his Lieutenant that just wanted the case solved without Decker doing his full and meticulous methods. Not as much family time......more

My all time favorite book! I became emotionally attached to a character. It's another coming of age story for a late teen woman who comes from an emotionally unavailable home. And story of justice for a killer, for the victim's family, for an overlooked employee, and for a corrupt public servant. I......more

Edit: 21.2.2023 The brutal and harrowing death of a popular teen plunges Decker into the complex, and sometimes violent, world of SoCal's youth. Marge is on vacation, and Decker finds himself at odds when the prime suspect confesses to the murder. Because deep down, Decker knows the suspect did......more
