Jesus Against the Darkness
Cosmic Conflict and the Royal Priesthood of Christ

Why did Christ ascend to heaven while darkness continued on earth? If Christ's atoning work was complete at the cross, why does our world remain mired in evil, suffering, and death? How will the end of the devil's rule come?

Understanding the nature and work of Christ is vital to answering these questions. Christ's victory over darkness depends on who he is; why he became human, suffered, and rose from the dead; and why he ascended to the heavenly sanctuary to minister as our royal high priest.

Some work remains to deliver the world from darkness, and Christ stands at the center of this work in a real cosmic trial between light and darkness. John C. Peckham's covenantal cosmic conflict Christology offers a way forward to understand Christ's full divinity and humanity, dependence on the Father and the Spirit, and ongoing ministry.

This fresh, constructive, and accessible treatment of Christ's identity and work engages recent biblical scholarship and offers exciting insights into the nature of the gospel itself and the significance of Christ's ongoing intercession for us.
