Synopsis

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Don’t miss the hit streaming series Reacher!

“Pure, escapist gold . . . Mr. Child’s tough talk and thoughtful plotting make an ingenious combination.”—The New York Times

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, ex—military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter–a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning–and then beat him shot for shot.

About Lee Child

English Author Jim Grant (Pen Name) “Lee Child”, was born in 1954 in Coventry, England UK. His most notable writings are the Jack Reacher series novels. Beginning with his first novel, Killing Floor, each of his work follows a former American military policeman, Jack Reacher who wanders throughout the United States.

Grant (Child) studied law at the University of Sheffield, but knew he had no intention of practicing law. After graduating, he worked in commercial television. He worked in that venue until 1995. A fun fact is that he chose Reacher for his main characters name, because he himself is tall and his wife once said, “If this “writing thing” does not work out, you could always be a Reacher in a supermarket.” Grant (Child) describes his books as revenge stories-“somebody does a very bad thing, and Reacher takes revenge.” In 2012, his novel “One Shot”, was adapted into a film called “Jack Reacher”, starring Tom Cruise.

Nobody should pick up a Jack Reacher novel and expect great literature. I might be wrong but I suspect that that isn’t Lee Child’s purpose. What you get instead is a good dollop of wish-fulfilment, good writing, beautiful, intelligent and feisty females who are either integral to the development of......more

Review update: Rereading this book after my original review, I'm impressed by how relatively little violence there is in this novel compared to some of the more recent books in the series. Lately, the body count in these books is unbelievably over the top and it seems that on every other page, Reach......more

I was looking forward to reading this series for a while, but I couldn’t find the first. Finally, I started with the 9th book. Probably I would better understand the main character If I started with the first book. However, I already liked this book more than I expected. I read this in less than two......more

A sniper guns down five people. The evidence against him is overwhelming. When questioned by the police he declares bluntly that they have the wrong man. Then he says, "Get Reacher." The cops have no idea who Reacher is, but you and I should know, because, if we are reading in order this is # 9 in t......more

This is my issue here, I normally rate higher than 3 stars with my beloved 'Reacher', but with the audio format, I have a definite tendency to be distracted, and that's what happened here. I love the narrator, Jeff Harding, he is super talented and this is a good thing as I think I will always use th......more
