This was just weird. I didn't care about the people and in fact found almost every character unlikable. I was bored with this book and barely got through it even though it was relatively short. In and of itself, S. E. Hinton's HAWKES HARBOR is not a bad book; as an entry in the DARK SHADOWS novel series, however, it would have flopped mightily.
