Synopsis

Who can you trust if not the ones you love? That is the question at the heart of Family Pictures, an emotional, page-turning story about what it means to be a family from New York Times bestselling author, Jane Green

"Green's novels consistently deliver believable, accessible, heartfelt, often heartwarming stories about real people, problems, and feelings."-Redbook

Sylvie and Maggie are two women living on opposite coasts with children about to leave the nest for school. Both are in their forties with husbands who travel more than either would like. The looming emptiness of their respective homes has left them feeling anxious and lonely, needing their husbands to be home now more than ever. It isn't until Eve, Sylvie's daughter, happens to befriend Maggie's daughter that the similarities between these two women become shockingly real. A huge secret has remained well hidden for years until now-and their lives will be blown apart as dark truths from the past come to the surface. Can these two women learn to forgive, for the sake of their children...and for themselves?

"This gripping story is ultimately one of redemption."-Library Journal

About Jane Green

A former feature writer for the Daily Express in the UK, Jane Green took a leap of faith when she left, in 1996, to freelance and work on a novel. Seven months later, there was a bidding war for her first book, Straight Talking, the saga of a single career girl looking for the right man. The novel was a hit in England, and Green was an overnight success. She's since written many bestselling novels including The Beach House, Second Chance, Jemima J, and Tempting Fate. Most weekends see her cooking for a minimum of twenty people in her home in Westport, Connecticut, where she lives with her husband and their blended family. When she is not writing, cooking, filling her house with friends and looking after their animals, she is usually thanking the Lord for caffeine-filled energy drinks.

I was facinated up to the final wrapup which took way too long and tied everything up in a big soppy bow with everybody matched up and being nauseatingly arch to each other.

You could figure out the "big mystery" by page 20; however, it was revealed around page 130. 110 pages of set-up that went by very slowly and, in my opinion, needlessly. I was also frustrated that we really never found out anything about Mark. I know, I know, this is c......more

The beginning setting started out a little cliche, but somehow it swiftly moves into a story you will believe in. As far as character development goes, so......more

I was torn between giving this book 3 stars and 4 stars. On the one hand, it's fairly predictable, the characters are not terribly compelling, it hinges on an enormous and very unlikely coincidence and the ending is saccarine sweet. On the other hand, it's immensely readable - I devoured it in one s......more
