Synopsis

In Encounters With Jesus, New York Times bestselling author and renowned pastor Timothy Keller shows how people were changed when they met Jesus personally—and how we can be changed today through our own encounter with him.

What is my purpose in life? What is a good life? Why is there so much wrong with our world? What can I do to help make it right? These are some of the big questions that everyone must answer. And any lasting change in our lives will start with a change to one or more of our answers to these questions.

Jesus changed the life of every person he met in the Gospels, through powerful experiences and words that led them to unexpected and transforming answers to their big questions. These conversations can still address our questions and doubts today. Originally published as an eSeries, Encounters with Jesus focuses on several of these meetings — including with a skeptical student, a religious insider, an outcast, even Jesus’ mother — and shows how the central events in Jesus’ life provide ways for us to encounter him again or for the first time.

After I became a Christian I read Mere Christianity by C. S, Lewis and thought "now I get it." I think Keller 's appeal is to those who "are getting it." His approach is both rational and reasonable and he is an able communicator. I liked the book and would recommend it even though God opened by eye......more

Si eres honesto contigo mismo, sabes qu......more

Keller delivers another wonderful book that is simultaneously challenging and comforting. His ability to explain clearly and uncompromisingly is tempered by a compassion that shines throughout. In the best traditions of Christian authors he comes across as both teacher and evangelist.......more

While I still appreciate Keller's books very much, at this point now that I have read so many of them, he seems to get pretty repetitive, using many of the same stories and insights in multiple books. Still, I just appreciate reading them, even while I struggle with my sometimes overwhelming doubts.......more

This is a great book. Each chapter has to do with a number of encounters that people had with Jesus in the gospels. Some chapters are good; others are simply amazing.......more

Quotes

“This is the book I give to all my friends who are serious spiritual seekers or skeptics.”   -Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, on The Reason for God

"Every Good Endeavor will soon become a classic on faith and work, not only because it's intelligent, but because it's accessible... Drawing on decades of study and ministry, Every Good Endeavor may soon become one of the most important contemporary books on faith and work." - Comment Magazine

Like so many life issues for Christians, the word balance is instructive when it comes to work. Every Good Endeavor deftly explains how we can relish and enjoy our work while honoring God and serving others, all the while avoiding the extremes of negativity on the one hand and idolatry on the other." - The Gospel Coalition

"Most people sitting in the pews of our churches on a Sunday morning spend more time in the workplace than anywhere else. Yet we can too easily make following Christ a matter of personal devotions and church activity... This is great book on an important area that is too often neglected." - Tim Chester
