Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author M. C. Beaton’s beloved Agatha Raisin is back and finds that she must prove her own innocence when a local therapist turns up dead. When therapist Jill Davent moved to the village of Carsely, Agatha Raisin was not a fan. Not only was this therapist romancing Agatha’s ex-husband, she dug up details of Agatha’s not-too-glamorous origins. Jill also counsels a woman, Gwen Simple, that Agatha firmly believes assisted her son in some grisly murders, although there is no proof. Not one to keep her feelings to herself, Agatha tells anyone who will listen that Jill is a charlatan and better off dead. Agatha can only sigh with relief when the therapist takes an office in Mircester. When Agatha learns that Jill had hired a private detective to investigate her background, she barges into Jill’s office and gives her a piece of her mind, yelling, “I could kill you!” So when Jill is found strangled to death in her office two days later, Agatha becomes the prime suspect. But Agatha, along with her team of private detectives, is determined to prove her innocence and find the real culprit. This time Agatha must use her skills to save her own skin. With Dishing the Dirt, M. C. Beaton proves that “once you meet Agatha Raisin, you’ll keep coming back” (New York Journal of Books).

Here's the thing. I know these books aren't good books. There is no character development at all - the characters are exactly the same in every single book. The body count is ridiculous - I think about 11 people die in this one, with no noticeable impact on anyone's behaviour. There's a serial kille......more

I'm conflicted, I am so fond of the sassy Agatha Raisin, this is my 26th adventure with her after all. Unfortunately, I found this one rather disappointing. Sooo many murders, and so many characters who were just rude and unpleasant made the story feel almost like a parody of prior Agatha books. I s......more

Extremely violent weather here with lots of lightning strikes and hail so I can't be on long. Charles saves Agatha's life so much and is so kind to her but she keeps on being mean to him!......more

I have always been a little bit in love with Sir Charles Fraith. After reading this book, I am completely enamored by him. Sure he has his faults, lots of them, but then so does Aggie, and she is darned lucky to have a guy like this in her life, if sporadically. I tend to like the books the best whe......more

Quotes

“Narrator Alison Larkin gives an enthusiastic narration of this lighthearted mystery…with a crisp English accent…Larkin’s reading is vivacious.” AudioFile

“The Agatha Raisin series is my guilty pleasure—it’s full of perfectly pitched interest, intrigue, and charm.” Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author, praise for the series

“With Dishing the Dirt, M. C. Beaton proves that once you meet Agatha Raisin, you’ll keep coming back.” New York Journal of Books

“Bestseller Beaton’s lively twenty-sixth cozy featuring the remarkably intuitive private detective…Fans of traditional English mysteries who appreciate oddball sleuths will be rewarded.” Publishers Weekly

“The acerbic Agatha Raisin is back in her twenty-sixth outing…Agatha is the same character fans have adored and others have disdained all these years: vain; envious of younger, prettier women; man crazy; and blunt to the point of rudeness. It may not be everyone’s recipe for success, but it works for Agatha.” Booklist

“As usual, Agatha attracts and forfeits the attentions of a number of eligible bachelors while hunting a clever killer; a basket full of red herrings makes this one of her more interesting cases.” Kirkus Reviews
