About Stig Abell

Stig Abell believes that discovering a crime fiction series to enjoy is one of the great pleasures in life. His first novel, Death Under A Little Sky, introduced Jake Jackson and his attempt to get away from his former life in the beautiful area around Little Sky, followed by Death in a Lonely Place. Stig is absolutely delighted that there are more on the way. Away from books, he presents the breakfast show on Times Radio, a station he helped to launch in 2020. Before that he was a regular presenter on Radio 4’s Front Row and was the editor and publisher of the Times Literary Supplement. He lives in London with his wife, three children and two independent-minded cats called Boo and Ninja (his children named them, obviously).

3.5 stars A thriller with the difference that the detective really didn't want to detect. He wanted peace and quiet. Jake's uncle leaves him Little Sky, a smallholding miles from civilisation in order that he can rebuild his life after splitting from his wife. An ex-policeman Jake finds himself thrown......more

Generous 3 stars. I can’t remember how this book ended up on my list. I’m quite sure it was not a recommendation. Perhaps a good advertisement. Anyways… the main character is so dull and the writing, although good, is on the verge of being self-indulgent or a bit pretentious. For a thriller or suspense......more

An ex detective, Jake wants a quiet life away from the stress of the job and to re-evaluate his life after his......more

Surprisingly bad. This is the line that broke me: "a soft, biscuitty smell on her clothes." Full body cringe, gag-reflex activated. Awful, florid, excessively cute, I hate it. And the thing is, that was one of the less egregious examples! It's just one that stood out. Biscuitty. Soft. A soft, biscui......more
