M. C. Beaton (1936–2019), hailed as the “Queen of Crime” by the Globe and Mail, was the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Agatha Raisin novels—the basis for the hit series on Acorn TV—as well as the Hamish Macbeth series. Born in Scotland, Beaton also wrote nearly one hundred historical romances under several pseudonyms. Her books have been translated into nineteen languages and sold more than twenty-two million copies worldwide.
Graeme Malcolm was an actor and winning audiobook narrator who earned twelve AudioFile Earphones Awards. He has performed on Broadway as Pharaoh in Aida and as Sir Edward Ramsay in The King and I. His television appearances include Law & Order, Follow the River, and Mr. Halpern and Mr. Johnson (with Laurence Olivier). His film credits include A Further Gesture, The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, and Reunion.

I love her romances as Marion Chesney, I love her mysteries as M.C. Beaton, I LOVE HER!! Death of a Dustman brings us garbage collection gone terri......more
An over ambitious environmental officer determines to ‘green’ a city over night, and sets off a string of events that lead to an environmental disaster of a size rarely seen in a quaint village and murder. I liked the way this mystery was solved. I didn’t particularly like any of the characters. Ev......more
This was too sad for me but there were some happy endings for some. I felt very sorry for the battered wives. It seems that many of the men in the highlands drink entirely too much whisky. I get a kick out of Hamish's accent which M. C. Beaton knows how to write.......more
Beaton is such a delight. She has such a way at describing the idiosyncratic characters that populate her books. In this latest Hamish Macbeth story, Hamish has been promoted to sergeant and he now has to supervise a new constable, Clarry, who has few genuine police skills but is a great cook. Freda......more
“In Death of a Dustman, the story is a charming one, and a visit to little Lochdubh is as refreshing as a mountain spring. Readers who enjoy the charms of the cozy subgenre will find this series their cup of tea.” RT Book Reviews
“Beaton’s mysteries, centering on a tiny village in the Scottish Highlands, combine James Herriot’s feel for landscape with Simon Brett’s comic audacity…Beaton’s deft hand with description…and her wryly sketched side characters, like Hamish’s latest assistant, Clarry, who cooks better than he patrols, along with village secrets laid bare, make this a delightful entry in an altogether captivating series.” Booklist (starred review)
“Beaton once again entertains fans of the series with delightful escapades of the Scottish populace and a good mystery. She uses Hamish not only as the main character, but also as a foundation for learning about the culture, activities, and other people in the village…Another entertaining offering from this successful author.” School Library Journal
“Hamish’s sixteenth is another winner for his prolific chronicler.” Kirkus Reviews
