Synopsis

Under Egypt's wind-swept sands, mummies and breathtaking treasure await those savvy and daring enough to seek them out. Intrepid archaeologist Zahi Hawass is one such adventurer, having made major discoveries in the pyramids at Giza and the Valley of the Golden Mummies. In Curse of the Pharaohs, Hawass details the secrets of ancient Egypt-and shows what it is like to be an archaeologist. From ancient germs and vipers to age-old curses and crumbling tombs, the dangers of his profession are real. But so too are the rewards. Uncovering artifacts that have gone thousands of years without seeing the light of day is the ultimate thrill-and something that Hawass not only lives for, but lives to share with a worldwide audience. Zahi Hawass has gained international fame for his many books and television appearances, and Curse of the Pharaohs continues his lifelong pursuit of revealing the mystery and intrigue of ancient Egypt.

A very quick read and more aimed at children, this is nevertheless, a fascinating insight into the life of an archaeologist and a little background into the culture of Ancient Egypt. I found the writing style perhaps a little simplistic, but I enjoyed the tales and images included. 4 stars.......more

People ask him a lot of questions from the movies. Remember how in the first on......more

I wish it had more of a glimpse into the art/history of Egypt instead of just Hawass' personal journey with archaeology, but it was still an enjoyable book and gave kids a glimpse into studying a very fascinating topic. Plus I find him intriguing and enjoyed when he did National Geographic specials.......more

Zahi Hawass is one of the leading authorities in Egyptology. Reading this book took me back through the "curse" of the pharaohs, the men who found the tombs, and some of the "mysterious" ends that they went through. Great quick read if you are interested in Egyptian history! I loved it!......more
