About Bill Johnstone

Bill Johnstone (1908–1996) was a radio and television actor best known for his role as Lamont Cranston in the long-running radio show The Shadow, which he stayed with for five seasons. His distinctive voice was well-suited for characters who were well-off, and this allowed him to portray The Shadow with more authority than had his predecessor, Orson Welles.

My maternal grandfather was born in Cumberland in 1903 and in the mines by the time he was 11 years old. It made the book particularly relevant to me.
