Set in the fictional country of Coralio in Central America, a banana republic where larceny is rampant and revolution lurks in every impoverished back alley, this novel offers cutting satire of contemporary politics and prejudices. Yet, in the end, lovers are reunited, poverty obliterated, and sentiment satisfied.
