Synopsis

FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF BIG LITTLE LIES, THE RUNAWAY PHENOMENON THAT INSPIRED THE MEGAHIT HBO SERIES

In this highly anticipated sequel, Liane Moriarty examines the complexities of modern women’s lives, shining light on family dynamics and long-hidden truths with wit and compassion. Whether you’ve read Big Little Lies or not, this is the perfect novel for longtime fans and new readers alike.

“Equal parts juicy, gripping, and impossible to put down . . . I loved diving back into the lives of these unforgettable characters.”—Freida McFadden, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Housemaid

The last time we saw the women of Big Little Lies—Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie—their children were five years old. If someone wasn’t invited to a birthday party, feelings were hurt. But ten years have passed and the kids are in high school, navigating all of the drama that accompanies teendom (goodbye playdates, hello drugs, sex, and alcohol).

When the high school principal receives a threatening package in the mail, word quickly spreads throughout the community and parents are in an uproar. But Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie have other things to worry about. Celeste’s mother-in-law, Mary Louise, is behaving oddly—is it old-age forgetfulness and bluntness or something more sinister? Madeline is facing perhaps the biggest challenge of her life, Jane is at a dangerous fork in her marriage, Bonnie has realized there’s only so much solace in yoga. And Renata? Renata is living her best life—revenge is sweet.

When a stranger begins lurking around the school asking supposedly innocent questions, this tightly connected group of women must finally face the full repercussions of the big little truths they have and haven’t shared with their kids. Because the stakes are now much higher than not being invited to an ice-skating party—and the ice has never been thinner for any of them.

About Liane Moriarty

Born in November of 1966, Liane Moriarty was a child who always loved to read.

Her career began in advertising and marketing. She became quite corporate for a while and wore suits and worried a lot about the size of her office. She eventually left her position as marketing manager of a legal publishing company to run her own business called “The Little Ad Agency”. After that she worked as a freelance advertising copywriter, writing everything from websites and TV commercials to the back of the Sultana Bran box.

After finding out that her sister (author Jaclyn Moriarty) was about to have one of her own novels published, Liane rushed to the computer and wrote a children’s book called The Animal Olympics, which went on to be enthusiastically rejected by every publisher in Australia.

She calmed down and enrolled in a Master’s degree at Macquarie University in Sydney. As part of that degree, she wrote her first novel, Three Wishes. Since then she has written five more novels for adults, The Last Anniversary, What Alice Forgot, The Hypnotists Love Story, The Husband's Secret and most recently Big Little Lies.

In August 2013 Liane’s fifth novel The Husband’s Secret was released in the US and within two weeks had climbed the charts to become a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

Liane's latest novel Big Little Lies was published in July 2014 and debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list, making Liane the first Australian author to have a novel debut in the top spot in the US. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon snapped up the film and television rights.

Liane is now a full-time author. She lives in Sydney with her husband and two small children who like to climb all over her while she tries to write helpfully smashing their fists against the keyboard and suggesting she might like to watch the Wiggles instead.

Quotes

Big Little Truths is a deliciously addictive drama that is equal parts juicy, gripping, and impossible to put down. I loved diving back into the lives of these unforgettable characters and watching their stories unfold in ways that were both intriguing and deeply satisfying.”—Freida McFadden, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“What a gossipy, dazzling pleasure it is to be in Liane Moriarty’s mind! She captures perfectly the tender agony of trying to parent teenagers, of being suddenly locked out of the inner life of the child you love more than your own self, even as you are tossed like a sock in the dryer by the rest of your life. The rare sequel that is just as good (and juicy) as the original.”—Rufi Thorpe, author of Margo’s Got Money Troubles

“Warm, funny, shocking, and twisting. Written with such skill and heart, reading Big Little Truths felt like catching up with old friends. I adored it.”—Chris Whitaker, New York Times bestselling author of All the Colors of the Dark
