Synopsis

Kate and Alex Rocket are blessed with a wonderful marriage and a lovely home. Although Kate is unable to bear children, she and Alex look upon Sara and Emily, affectionate daughters of their good friends Don and Debbie Winter, as part of their family. With one phone call, everything changes. Sara accuses Alex of a heinous act, opening up a vicious rift between the couples. In a single moment an idyllic all-American life has imploded into an unfathomable nightmare. Kate can only watch helplessly as her innocent husband is convicted and sent to prison. But when even greater tragedy strikes, Kate has no choice but to turn her grief into anger... Just when her life is as its darkest point, Kate discovers an inner strength and a steel-edged resolve to clear her husband’s name — and ruin the lives of those who destroyed everything she shared with Alex. But Kate’s greatest challenge will be in avenging Alex without losing her chance at a new future — and a precious new love. As long as Kate holds on to her courage and hope, she may not lose everything...

About Fern Michaels

Self-described as someone who can scribble notes and tell great stories, author Fern Michaels, aka Mary Ruth Kuczkir, is a very prolific writer having written 147 books, with 90 being on the New York Times best sellers list. She was born in Pennsylvania, coming into this world as "a dinky little thing", as her father called her. She spent the early part of her adult life becoming a wife and mother of five children. After her children were grown, she separated from her husband, who was a very negative person, and began putting pen to paper to begin her writing career. She had always loved books, and writing one seemed to be the best chance for her to make her own way through the rest of her life. Her first manuscript was not published, but the second attempt was, and so began her illustrious career.

Her successful career allowed her to put all five children through college, on her own, which she claims is one of her most proud accomplishments. She says that when all is considered, family is the most important thing. Fern also bought a beautiful old (300 year old) plantation in South Carolina, where she still lives today. Her grandmother gave her very sage advice many years ago, which she lives by today.......when God is good to you, you have to give back. She developed the Fern Michaels Foundation which grants four scholarships to deserving students. She also opened a pre-school and day care center for single moms who are having a hard time supporting their family.

The quote that best describes is a Dutch saying.......If you can't whistle on your way to work, you don't belong in that job. She follows by saying, "I whistle all day long".

When I think of perfect summer reads--you know, the ones you stay up late reading while you're on vacation--Fern Michaels' Betrayal comes to mind. I couldn't put it down. It wasn't that it was a seminal literary work; indeed, the characters are not immensely complex. Michaels conveys exactly which ch......more

The writing leaves something to be desired. It feels like the story was written down, but not given a great comb through to make sure it sounds right. The conversations feel SO unnatural. Almost all of the characters sound very similar in their dialogue. The narration feels trying and repetitive. It......more

This book was just ok for me. It was the story of a perfect marriage between Kate and Alex. Although they do not have children of their own, they love the visits of Sara and Emily. The two girls are the daughters of Alex's best friend, Don and his wife Debbie. However, Sara suddenly exhibits troubli......more
