Synopsis

Twin sisters Waverly and Charlie Talbot have drifted far apart as they pursue opposite dreams of stardom and service to the poor. Now they must come together to face their fears, find their courage, and fight for what they love.Celebrity chef Waverly Talbot has built a successful career with her home-entertaining show Simply Perfect. Yet she and her husband, Andrew, have never been able to realize the true desire of Waverly’s heart: to become a mother. Meanwhile Waverly’s twin sister, Charlie, buries her bitter disappointment and shattered idealism beneath a life spent serving others as an international aid worker in Budapest, Hungary. When the beloved aunt who raised them passes away, Waverly and Charlie come together in their grief after living years on separate continents. Struck by a fierce desire to bridge the distance between them, Charlie offers Waverly and her husband the selfless gift of surrogacy. But soon the sisters find they are each in danger of losing their jobs, seemingly putting their dreams on hold once again. When Waverly shows up unannounced in Budapest with a plan to rescue Simply Perfect, the sisters embark on an adventure across central Europe that could save them both from occupational hazards. Though the twins haven’t had to rely on each other since childhood, a dramatic turn in their journey forces them to stand together to save their careers, the baby, and each other.

This ended up being a different read than I thought it would be—but not necessarily in a bad way. The story makes a leisurely, albe......more

This book really surprised me. I was expecting a book about two sisters who forge a relationship when one is unable to have a much-wanted baby and the other offers to be a surrogate. Their travels across Europe, especially to areas that are not often written about, provided more depth and interest.......more

An irresistible setting and the bond between sisters are at the forefront of the sophomore novel by this exciting voice in women's fiction. The accessible writing prose with an almost journalistic integrity in its evocation of time and place was a welcomed intelligent slant. Anyone who has ever felt......more

I love books about sisters and families and this fit that criteria but was so much more. Not only is it about twin sisters who took totally different paths in life but it is also about surrogacy and sex trafficking and the effect of the media on every day lives. This is a book that you don't want to......more

Becoming the Talbot Sisters is a sweet read that will leave you craving more. I just loved the Talbot sisters, Waverly and Charlie. Waverly and Charlie could not be more different but when it comes to family; a sister's bond is the strongest. I know that I would do anything and be there for my sister......more

'Linden is a gifted author and international aid worker whose travels around the world provide detailed settings for the unique locations in her novels.' CBA Market

'Linden tackles the issue of sex trafficking deftly and with sensitivity. Provocative prose and a twisty plot will engage readers. Devotees of Elin Hilderbrand and Catherine West will appreciate this one.' Library Journal

'This is more than a fluff 'sister chick' story. There is a depth to the story as each sister faces fears and digs deep to uncover the courage needed to find their path in life. There are numerous heartwarming scenes which demonstrate the bravery and selflessness that Waverley and Charlie exhibit along the way. Unexpected twists and a surprising mystery angle add to the enjoyment.' RT Book Reviews, 4 stars
