Synopsis

HIGH STAKES ADVENTURE AS TWO FRIENDS FIGHT THEIR WAY ACROSS A STRANGE WORLD IN A FAR-FLUNG FUTURE

Sometimes, the real enemies are the friends we make along the way.

An encounter with an old friend becomes tragically fatal, and Indrajit and Fix set out on a high-stakes, high-adrenaline quest across the ancient city of Kish to bring their friend back to life. At each step, the complications and the enemies alike pile up. The mysterious necromancers, the Vin Dalu priests, bind the heroes on an errand that sends them shuttling from one thieves' guild to the next, pitting Indrajit and Fix against the deadly House of Knives and embroiling them in a plot by the giant, wasplike Kattak to take dire revenge on Kish and all its great houses.

Can the heroes save their friend? Can Indrajit and Fix survive? Will Kish itself fall?

Butler Brilliance Yet Again It is hard to oversell just how weird and wonderful the work of DJ Butler is - you have to experience it to really understand. Among the Gray Lords is another fantastic entry in the world of Kish, a corrupt and ancient city whose denizens are as myriad as they are mutated.......more

A criminally underrated series set in a world that's as fantastic as Jack Vance's Dying Earth or the works of Fritz Leiber. I'm extremely happy that Baen can continue this series and I desperately hope that there's a fourth book coming soon, hopefully another anthology. Forewarning: bought this book......more

Indrajit and Fix are back in the city of Kish filled with odd strains of humanity and sufficiently dank and dirty. As D.J. Butler tells it, this adventure starts simply enough. The pair have been sent to rescue a dancer who had been kidnapped. Unfortunately in the process a woman whom Fix had once l......more

Jack Vance meets, I dunno, Robert E. Howard maybe, or Clark Ashton Smith. Excellent, headlong adventures that cast the Protagonists into one soggy horror pickle after another, with banter that goes like this: “Remember the sign that we need backup?” “Supposedly it’s a whistle,” Munahim said. “But my......more
