Synopsis

Two psychics plunge into a dark world of deadly secrets in this second installment of the Fogg Lake trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz.

North Chastain possesses a paranormal talent that gives him the ability to track down the most dangerous psychic criminals. When his father suddenly falls into a coma-like state, North is convinced it was caused by a deadly artifact that traces back to the days of a secret government program known only as the Bluestone Project. North knows his only hope of saving his father is to find the artifact. He is good when it comes to tracking down killers, but to locate the relic he’s going to need help from a psychic who knows the shadowy world of obsessive collectors, deceptive dealers and ruthless raiders...

With her reputation in ruins after a false accusation, antiques expert Sierra Raines is looking for a fresh start. She turns to the murky backwaters of the paranormal artifacts trade, finding and transporting valuable objects with a psychic provenance. When North Chastain approaches her for help, Sierra takes him on as a client, though not without reservations. North represents the mysterious Foundation, the secretive organization established to police the underworld populated by psychic criminals and those, like Sierra, who make a living in the shadows of that world.

North and Sierra soon find themselves at the scene of the Incident, which occurred decades ago in Fogg Lake. The town and its residents were forever changed by the disaster in the nearby Bluestone Project labs. The pair unearths shocking truths about what happened that fateful night, but they are playing with fire—someone in town knows what they’ve discovered and will do anything to make sure the secrets stay buried.

About Jayne Ann Krentz

Doesn't it sound like fun using several different names while doing something you love as a job? That is exactly what ensued for Jayne Castle, as she grew through her writing career. She used Jayne Ann Krentz (her married name) for her writings about contemporary romantic suspense, as Amanda Quick, for her historical romantic-suspense, and today, she uses her birth name, Jayne Castle, for her stories of futuristic/paranormal romantic-suspense. It seems like great fun to have three personalities and not be considered schizophrenic! She is quoted as saying.......she uses a variety of pen names so that the reader will always know which of her three world's they will be entering when they pick up one of her books.

Jayne earned a BS degree in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Fearing that she would not have many opportunities with a history degree, she received a Master's Degree from San Jose State University in Library Science. After she spent a time as an elementary school librarian, she decided to move into higher academia, then into corporate library work. She had met her husband, Frank Krentz, at San Jose State, where he received his engineering degree.

Krentz spends much of her free time writing and speaking about the value to women that the romance genre represents. There are currently over 23 million copies of her books in print worldwide. She firmly advocates that......."romance is among the most enduring, because it addresses the values of family and human emotional bonds". She and her husband Frank live in Seattle, Washington.

The plot was riveting, intriguing, keeping you on your toes even though there are some holes, they were still tolerable. I mostly loved both of the M......more

This is second in a series and some story and plot carry over from the first. However, both protagonists are new and you can probably take this on as a stand-alone if you like. I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point, however. I could have sworn that I wrote this review already. Indeed, I can rec......more
