Synopsis

Soon after a junior officer at submarine communication sold secrets to the Soviets enabling them to decipher coded American submarine communications, a Soviet missile sub on a mission near Hawaii sank with all hands in February 1968. Two weeks later, a spy reported that a damaged U.S. submarine had arrived in Japan. Soviet files reveal and interviews confirm that high Soviet officials believed it had deliberately sunk their vessel. In revenge, they torpedoed the Scorpion on May 27, killing ninetynine men. This engrossing overview of American and Soviet submarine operations includes capsule biographies of theScorpions captain and many of its crew and families.

A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma… In May of 1968 the U.S. submarine Scorpion was lost with all 99 souls onboard. What happened to her is still something of a mystery. The authors do a good job of educating the reader about life on a submarine, as well as introducing us......more

The Scorpion was allegedly sunk out of retaliation for the sinking of the Soviet submarine K-129. The author devotes a good amount of the book to John Walker and him selling to......more
