I liked this just a little better than the average Camilleri, though some things are wearing on me as I race through the series. Another decent Inspector Montalbano story. A grocery store owned by the Cuffaro's is robbed, and the manager ends up committing suicide is one plot line. Trying to keep up with Andrea Camilleri. This Inspector Montalbano mystery was an excellent read. He gets dragged into this by trying to be tuff guy and following a crazed motorist confronts him. He gets his car bashed in by the person and arrests him. Little did he know that he was the son of the h......more

Quotes

“[A] mix of the harrowing and the humorous…particularly Montalbano’s language-butchering assistant Catarella…who could have stepped straight out of a Marx Brothers movie.” Publishers Weekly

“The opera buffa tone of this series plays effectively against the bursts of senseless violence…Thankfully, Montalbano always has the prospect of his next meal to keep him sane.” Booklist

“Camilleri’s trusty inspector keeps things lighthearted…You can trust in his razor-sharp investigative mind even as basic skills amusingly escape him.” Kirkus Reviews
