Synopsis

A broken warrior searching for redemption. A criminal who haunts the darkest shadows. A rising darkness that threatens to consume them both . . .

A born warrior, Talyn Dynan was the finest fighter of her generation. But after a combat mission goes tragically wrong, she is left broken and wracked with guilt. Sent on a dangerous assignment to the mysterious kingdom of Mithranar, she must contend with the ruthless political games of the royal court while secretly hunting a criminal who is key to a much greater mystery. A single mistake could mean her death.

The Shadowhawk thrives in the darkest of nights. Desperate to help the oppressed human folk of Mithranar, he haunts the streets, stealing from those who have the most. The arrival of a foreign warrior brings him closer than ever before to being unmasked and executed. But is she truly his enemy, or an unwitting pawn in a game being played by the powerful ruling Acondor family?

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to either, a murderous foe stalks the dark corners of Mithranar. One that answers to a single purpose . . .

Vengeance.

About Lisa Cassidy

Lisa Cassidy is a self-published fantasy author by day and book nerd in every other spare moment she has. She's a self-confessed coffee snob (don't try coming near her with any of that instant coffee rubbish) but is willing to accept all other hot drink aficionados, even tea drinkers.

She lives in Australia's capital city, Canberra, and like all Australians, is pretty much in constant danger from highly poisonous spiders, crocodiles, sharks, and drop bears, to name a few. As you can see, she is also pro-Oxford comma.

A 2019 SPFBO finalist, Lisa has published the YA fantasy series The Mage Chronicles, and is working on her epic fantasy series, A Tale of Stars and Shadow. She has also partnered up with One Girl, an Australian charity working to build a world where all girls have access to quality education. A world where all girls-no matter where they are born or how much money they have-enjoy the same rights and opportunities as boys. A percentage of all Lisa's royalties go to One Girl.

But there was no......more

It’s the only SPFBO 2019 finalist I haven’t heard about before the contest. Judging it by the cover, I wasn’t in a hurry to pick it up. The cover tells nothing about the story, except that there will be blades. It looks… uninspiring? And don’t get me started on the atrocious font. Covers matter. Fra......more

1st reread: 23/january/2022 In a lot of ways, this is me reading this book for the first time. The way everything unfolded was way different from the first time I read it. I could keep my eyes open for character development, and small hints towards who the Shadowhawk actually was. Because of that, I see......more

A Tale of Stars and Shadow is a good fast paced fantasy read but it just feels like a retread of a story that we have seen before. Don't get me wrong. Even if the story is unoriginal or the beats predictable (tell me that you didn't figure out who the Shadowhawk was, the moment another character was......more
