Synopsis

Lee is a math professor at a secondtier university in the Midwest. When a mail bomb goes off in the office of the star computer scientist next door, Lee is slow to realize that students and colleagues have begun to suspect that hes the Brain Bomber, an elusive terrorist whose primary targets appear to be academic hotshots. In the midst of campus tumult over the bombing, a letter arrives from a figure in Lees past, which forces him to revisit events and choices that shaped his failed marriage, his life as a father, and his work as a scholar of middling achievement. While Lee becomes further ensnared in the FBIs attempts to find the bomber, the churnedup regrets from his past bring him to an examination of extremes in his own life as he tries to exonerate himself, face his tormentor from his past, and atone for his failings.

Five years ago, she wrote a novel about Patty Hearst called American Woman that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and now she's back with A Person of Interest, a piercing story about the Unabomber that's one of the......more

I very nearly gave up on this book after hearing far too much about two selfish, horrible men. I’m glad I stuck with it. Professor Lee is a not Chinese, but Asian. He escapes his home country alone, his family lost. He starts over in America at age 29, and enters graduate school (mathematics) at the......more

I like the story line. The author has a strong story with a good ending. However, I wasn't able to hang onto in the beginning, I can't say why. I decided to continue despite some attempts of giving it up. I wanted to know if one of the characters was still alive that held me to the very end. Somehow,......more
