A Mere Accident

John Norton, a repressed Catholic landowner, moves toward marriage with Kitty Hare until a tramp's assault shatters the wedding path and Kitty's despair ends in a fall from a window. Stark novel of faith, violence, and ruined promise. Moore at his most unsparing about bodies and belief.
