A Belated Farewell

Some friendships last only a few years, yet shape an entire lifetime. At secondary school, Suat is the boy everyone overlooks: overweight, painfully shy and burdened by an illness he refuses to discuss. Behind his quiet manner, however, lies an extraordinary intelligence and a rare generosity of spirit. When he befriends a struggling classmate, Suat becomes far more than a companion. Through patience, discipline and kindness, he changes the course of another child’s life. But after graduation, Suat suddenly disappears. The years pass, bringing academic success, a career and all the distractions of adulthood. Nearly three decades later, one unfinished promise leads his old friend deep into the Latmos Mountains, to a remote village and a truth that has waited far too long to be discovered.Poignant and deeply human, A Belated Farewell is a story of friendship, poverty, memory and the quiet individuals whose kindness continues to live within us long after they are gone.
