Blech. Only read James Patterson when I think the story might be good. As a person who has ridden, owned horses and jumped, his tale of show jumping at the highest level left me cold. I am nit picking but I don't care....first, how small is a small show jumping horse....14.1 hands like Stroller? 15.......more

A book about women and horses written by men who don't understand women and horses. I love almost any book about horses but it was very clear the authors did minimal research while trying to use horse world buzzwords. It also became increasingly annoying to hear "I said," "he said," "she said" over......more

Well, I finally read an adult James Patterson novel. (Have only read a few of his teen series.) Can't say that I was very impressed. Obviously a novel about a mother and daughter competing against each other in the showjumping world, trying to earn a spot on the US Olympic team, is going to be one i......more

I’m 50 percent through, didn’t think I’d get this far, but will probably finish. This really is a YA story, or should I say, I don’t think the writing is up to adult level. So much inane conversation, plus just repetitive information. The riding parts drive me crazy. Especially every time a rider go......more

While I typically enjoy Patterson's books (and love horses), this one just didn't capture my interest. For the most part, I felt the characters were uninspired and the dialogue somewhat pedantic. Once he started opining on the plight of the "poor undocumented immigrants", I gave up. I find that offe......more

Quotes

“Patterson and Lupica manage to get deep into the world of high-level show jumping and also, incredibly for two men, deep into the lives of three generations of strong women.  I don’t know what’s more compelling—the white-knuckle descriptions of the horse shows in the lead-up to the Olympics or the tense, complex relationships among the three women.  We grow to care deeply about these horsewomen.  This is a hugely entertaining, riveting, page-turner of a book.  A thrilling and thoughtful read.” —Louise Penny, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Chief Inspector Gamache series

The Horsewoman is more than a thriller--it’s an eye-opening ride through the high-stakes world of equestrian show-jumping. Patterson and Lupica make a great team, writing at a full gallop and with faultless timing of the lives of three fearless women connected by blood, competition, and a passion for fast horses.”
