Synopsis

In the suburbs of Maryland, the firm of Hendley and Associates meanders its way through financial transactions—but its true purpose is to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them in whatever manner necessary. “The Campus” is always on the lookout for new talent, and its eye happens to light on President John Patrick Ryan’s son: Jack Ryan, Jr. While his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and into the Presidency, Jack Jr. received the benefit of years of life experience in special ops, intelligence analysis, and the way the world really works. Now, the Arab terrorist world and the Colombian drug cartels are about to unite forces, and Jack Jr. must put all he has been taught to good use—or else.

I'm giving it 4 stars only because the story is good. Maybe I should have given it 3. The writing is horrible. This is perfect fodder for The Tom Clancy drinking game. Every time you hear the phrase "good guy" or "bad guys" take a drink. If you want to get drunk faster take a drink every time you hear a product placement. Sam Adams must have written Mr. Clancy a nice check or given him beer for life. Writing is bad, but the concept of a private organization set up my an administration as it exits to covertly strike and our nations enemies makes for a very good story. I like how they chose succs as their poison of choice. I'm not sure if it is quite as difficult to detect as he states in his book, but prior to this book what medical examiner would bother to look for? Unless there is a medical link or a state sponsored actor involved an ME still isn't going to look for it.
