Synopsis

Mind training is a comprehensive practice that is suitable for all types of students. It contains the entire path and does not depend on a person's background. Mind training nurses and cultivates the Buddha Nature—that pure seed of awakening that is at the very heart of every sentient being. It has the power to transform even egotistical self-clinging into self-lessness. Put into practice diligently, it is enough to lead you all the way to awakening. In The Path to Awakening, Shamar Rinpoche gives his own detailed commentary on Chekawa Yeshe Dorje's Seven Points of Mind Training, a text that has been used for transformative practice in Tibetan Buddhism for close to a thousand years. Clear, accessible, and yet profound, this book is filled with practical wisdom, philosophy, and meditation instructions.

About Shamar Rinpoche

Shamar Rinpoche is the fourteenth Shamarpa and the founder of Bodhi Path Buddhist Centers, a network of centers covering many continents that practice a non-sectarian approach to meditation. Over the years, he has founded several non-profit organizations worldwide that engage in charitable activities such as schooling underprivileged children and promoting animal rights.

About Leslie Howard

Leslie Howard is an audiobook narrator who specializes in nonfiction, young-adult fiction, science fiction, and fantasy. Although she comes to the trade from an unconventional background—one in metaphysics and yoga—she has found that narration focuses her creative, empathic, technical, and performance abilities. A mother of six, she lives on a small farm in central Pennsylvania, where she has spent years homeschooling her children.

This book lays out a genuine approach to becoming less self-centered and confused, and more truly kind and stable. I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about long-term commitment to meditation practice and ethics. It isn't really for a feel-good, new age approach in the sense that following......more

I read the first edition of this book when it was first published in 2009. I'm very happy to see that it is now being reissued through a new publisher and a focus to making it widely available. This book is Rinpoche's commentary on the classic Seven Points of Mind Training. There are many different......more

The more I look at this book, the more I realize how profound it is. The early pages start off simple-- providing basic methods for settling the mind and freeing ourselves from the habits which cause us to jump from thought to thought, reaction to reaction, etc. These methods help us develop the fou......more

The few negative reviews show some people expected this book to be something it isn't. Its not an introduction to Buddhism, nor yet another Buddhist-oriented self-help book. There are many excellent books filling those needs, and you should read a couple of them first. If you already have enough bas......more

This book offers a rare opportunity to access pure Buddhist teachings from an authentic lineage holder. There are many books that offer readers a watered down version of Buddhism, but this is definitely not one of them. For seekers looking to establish their way on the path of genuine Buddhism, this......more
