What I love about Stephen Whites writing is how perfectly he balances the narrative. In Blinded he is at his absolute best, and Dick Hill as a reader brings this story to life. We have 2 narrators, which is interesting and novel: Alan Gregory, the guy were all used to as the storyteller, if weve read much of this series, and Sam Purdy, Alans best friend, a Boulder cop, who suffers both a heart attack and a longawaited split from his spouse Sheri in this book. The delicacy with which Stephen White handles both the narrative and tale make this book riveting.Besides that, its a **** good mystery. I confess I didnt figure out the real antagonist until about the time Sam hit Indiana. I love the way that Stephen White uses his 2 main characters masculinity to shroud the real killers identity.I also loved the literary device that White used in this book to develop the character of our chief antagonist, Sterling Storey. We dont meet him until the very end of the book, but along the way we develop a fully functional idea of who this man is. Its a fascinating process. And of course, who can resist the wonderful witticisms of Sam, who lusts after women one moment and a slowroasted turducken the next. The way that White weaves the Thanksgiving holiday into this story is truly masterful. My favorite quote a Samwitticism, he really should have a Facebook page!: Secrets are like puppies once they get out, theyre hard to control. And about the reader: Allinall, one of my favorite of Dick Hill listens. He carries these characters so convincingly from one novel to the next that I recognize each voice without even thinking about it. I have listened to Dick Hill reading Alan Gregory and Sam Purdy now for so many hours that they are real people. Strangely enough, his voice is so different for the characters in this book from, say, his readings of Reacher or even his Deep South novels. I am completely in awe of the talent of Dick Hill. He never disappoints.
